I was back in 2006, when 5 people from Luxembourg, all previously active in other bands, found together to form a new band and to start something new, leaving their musical pasts behind to set sail to new shores. RetraceMyFragments was founded. A 4-track demo was recorded and first gigs were played in late 2006. The music being initially based on traditional Metalcore in the vein of Arkangel and with some Death and Trash influences. But this subject was yet to be changed.
Like the snake that sheds its skin, 2007 was the year where many band members came and left. A very long search for the right drummer began until Pascal was found, Claude replaced Andy on the bass guitar, and then the band’s separation from founding member and long time guitar player Steve. At the end of 2007, there was in fact only Ramon (Rhythm Guitars) left as the last remaining founding member. And as a matter of fact, the musical direction had changed, horizons were widened and a high amount of musical openmindedness led the band to its new style, which could be described as Deathcore with progressive influences, a subject that was yet to be changed. But the neverending changes in the line-up didn’t stop the band from progressing; more gigs were played, borders were crossed and new songs were created, which resulted in an evergrowing fanbase. In 2008, the line-up was completed yet again; Alex had joined the band as their new guitar player and by choosing to get a lead guitar player in the band, they showed again their aim to progress and not to stagnate. And this was proved. They started the concert season by playing in front of a sold out KUFA (Esch/Alzette) at the ExInferis release, hit the road for one week and toured through France, a first series of merchandise was released and on April 19th, their first EP entitled Vertizontal saw the light of day. 7 songs expressing the bandmember’s thoughts and feelings, varying from pure hatred to some more mellow aspects of life. With this album, the band closed its first chapter (as it contains recently written songs but also some of the very beginning) and is already working on new material for their upcoming full length release. ![]() An album that starts to take shape as the band continues their hard work even though they had yet again to cope with the departure of drummer Pascal and the band’s last remaining founding member Ramon who was replaced by the very talented Nikko, yet another lead guitarist, yet another anticipation of the band to progress technically as well as on the songwriting level and add more shapes to their music. And now in 2009 they have teamed up with Rol who joined the band as their new drummer, and are ready to rock the stages again. So far they have played shows in Luxembourg, Germany, France and Belgium and shared the stage with local heroes from Luxembourg, like Everwaiting Serenade, ExInferis, Defdump, Fast Friday, Eternal Tango and so on, but also with foreign acts like The Ocean, Entombed, Cephalic Carnage, Fall of Serenity, Grizzly Twister, Hate Eternal, Burst, Crisis Never Ends, Off Minor and many more. Their style can be described as modern Death Metal with progressive touches, with many influences from different styles that are not always bound to Metal or Hardcore. They create sombre atmospheres and do break them with parts that might not always fit in a first instance but play a very important part in their songwriting. They might not be the easiest band to listen to as a lot of patience is needed by the listener in order to fully enjoy their complex song structures. As every band member has a different musical past (the band features ex-members from bands like Ganesha, Man Made Suicide, Miles To Perdition and Thousand Lakes) many influences come together, but all of them share an openminded musical view and the passion for music. ![]() |
