Star of Life goes Metal Party @Cool Boules (Niederanven) 13.02.2010 PDF Print E-mail

Together with some 100 metal friends and many beers, I attended the “Star of Life goes Metal Party” this weekend, a charity concert which took place at the “Café Cool Boules” in Niederanven.

The event was organized by “heavymetal.lu” in order to raise funds and public awareness for “Luxembourg Air Rescue”, an independent, non-profit, humanitarian organisation whose mission it is to save human lives and to preserve people’s health by operating rescue helicopters and ambulance aircraft in Luxembourg. There were two Luxembourgish metal bands performing for this charitable purpose, “Sublind” and “Scarlet Anger“ followed by an after show of DJ “Master of Puppets”.

Sublind - Scarlet Anger - DJ Master of Puppets

The gig was opened by Sublind, a Luxembourgish band from Syren whose genre is inspired by old school thrash metal from the '80s and early '90s. Although this concert was their first performance for nearly two years the band convinced the crowd with their thrashy sound and the mighty growls of their front man Luca Tommasi. They played some tracks from their early releases, some newly written songs like “Necromania” and a cover version of Sepultura’s “Slave New World”. Sublind’s final for this evening was their powerful song called “Thrash it ! followed by an additional encore.

The second band on stage was the Luxembourgish band Scarlet Anger opening with the aggressive sounds of “Scarlet”. This title was followed by two older tracks of the band, the ballad “Stupid Boy” and a cover version of Madball’s “Pride”. After an instrumental Metallica medley the band closed their gig with “Black Days” and “Bewitched, two songs of their recently released EP called “La realidad es triste…”. This awesome EP awarded Scarlet Anger as best newcomer on audiometropolis.lu.

Carl Orff's “Carmina Burana” announced the beginning of DJ Master of Puppets’ after show followed by Slayer’s brutal “Angel of Death”. He entertained the mob with many classics from bands like Iron Maiden, Megadeth or Sepultura but also many modern metal songs from subgenres such as Viking or Death metal were responsible for shaking the Cool Boules’ walls.

Overall I had an enjoyable evening at the “Café Cool Boules” in Niederanven with many friends and lots of first-class metal music; it was a pleasant change from Fausti’s “Zwou Bullen Mocca” which is the common tune during the Luxembourgish carnival season. The only disappointment of the evening was that the on Facebook requested trash metal version of “Zwou Bullen Mocca” performed by the two bands and growled by DJ Master of Puppets, didn’t become reality.
